Annually, penitents from Rosario, Cavite practice Hampas-Dugo during the Holy Week. Hampas-Dugo, a widespread tradition in the country wherein the participants make incisions on their backs, and use tied sticks to strike their cuts and draw out blood. The participants roam around their town while doing this ordeal for hours. Afterwards, they wash off the blood in the sea, believing that their sins will be washed off too. (Abes Abian)
