People’s organizations and various cause-oriented groups launched a campaign against Senator Bongbong Marcos’ vice presidential bid. The Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses in Malacanang (CARMMA) is a coalition of organizations opposed to “Sen. Marcos’ attempt to rewrite history, obscure the horrors of Martial Law rights’ abuses and corruption and diminish the significance of people’s democratic gains after the overthrow of his father’s decades-long authoritarianism”. The campaign, launched Monday at the Bahay ng Alumni in UP Diliman, was spearheaded by Martial law victims.

The elder Marcos was ousted from power after the ‘People Power’ uprising at EDSA on February 1986.

The campaign of the vice-presidential candidate was said to be aimed at millennials and youth.

“Bongbong Marcos is targeting the youth and millennials for he believes them unknowledgeable, even ignorant of the unspeakable atrocities of Martial Law. They and the whole Filipino people must stand up against his ‘brainwashing attempts’ and cast a vote against Martial Law come May 9,” said Raymond Palatino, blogger, former Kabataan Partylist representative and Bayan Metro Manila chairperson.

Bongbong Marcos, only son of deceased President Ferdinand Marcos, has reached as high as senatorial position in the national leadership ladder due the lasting influence and political dynasties of the Marcoses in the Ilocos region and the Romualdezes, maternal clan of the senator, in the Eastern Visayas region. Ferdinand Marcos’ wife, Imelda, is currently congresswoman of Ilocos Norte while their daughter, Imee, is governor of the same province.
