The 16th iteration of the longest-running political film festival Pandayang Lino Brocka Political Film and New Media Festival will launch on November 15 in Gravity Art Space in Mother Ignacia, Quezon City.

Pandayang Lino Brocka (PLB) is a non-profit cultural gathering that aims to inspire the creation and popularization of truthful, artistic, and relevant audio-visual works to enlighten and cultivate consciousness of the mass audience.

The theme for this year is “Lupang Sinira” (translated as “Land of Ruins”) which drew inspiration from Tambisan ng Sining’s rendition of “Lupang Hinirang”.

“Two-years have passed since Marcos Jr. sat in power, but he and his cronies continue to prioritize counterinsurgency efforts, military pacts, and subservience to foreign powers like the U.S. and China,” said in PLB’s concept note.

“We aim to challenge independent and critical filmmakers to reflect and struggle the harsh realities faced by Filipinos—not only in their struggle for land but also for livelihood, sovereignty, and social justice,” it added.

The film festival director for this edition is Tudla Productions multimedia editor Czyrene Farrales.

“PLB is a powerful platform for critical voices to highlight the people’s struggles and we hope it challenges artists to push the boundaries of storytelling in service of truth, justice, and change,” said Farrales.

The film festival is held in tribute to the late National Artist Lino Brocka. Lino Brocka is remembered by this film festival as a true artist, a nationalist who successfully merged form and content and art and action.

After the premiere launch, screenings will extend in communities and partner sectors and organizations. For those interested in screening partnerships, you may contact PLB via email at plb.filmfest@gmail.com or send a message through their Facebook page.
