The late revolutionary Jose Maria Sison’s National Democratic School continues to visit underprivileged areas of the National Capital Region.

Paaralang Jose Maria Sison (PJMS), a national democratic school named after the late revolutionary Jose Maria Sison, and its partnered school Paaralang Crispin Beltran (PCB), named after late trade unionist Crispin Beltran, launched an educational discussion called Espesyal na Kurso para sa Manggagawa (ESKUM Manggagawa) which was attended by over 20 students from the youth and workers sector in Novaliches, Quezon City yesterday.

Andrea Trinidad, PCB’s principal and lead instructor, started the conversation by establishing a rapport with the students by posing discussion-related questions.

“Ngayong paparating ang November 30 kung saan tinatawag rin na “Araw ng Anakpawis” dahil araw ng pagkakapanganak ni Andres Bonifacio, isang rebolusyanaryo, manggagawa at anakpawis noong panahon nya. Mula noon hanggang sa kasalukuyan lalo pang tumindi ang pagsasamantala sa mga manggagawa,” said Trinidad.

[“This upcoming November 30 is also called the “Day of the Working Class” because it celebrates the birth of Andres Bonifacio, a revolutionary coming from the working class during his time. From then until now the oppression of workers continue to remain,”]

ESKUM Manggagawa tackles the historical basis of the millennium-long exploitation of the Filipino workers.

ESKUM Manggagawa was the second educational discussion of PJMS since its relaunching this year. The first discussion was about the Agrarian Revolution.

University Hotel Workers Union accede to the continuing plight of the working class

Boying Samonte, the President of University Hotel Workers Union shared during the discussion their on-going fight versus the management of University Hotel at the University of the Philippines – Diliman, Quezon City.

“Sa amin malala ang flexible working time at pati yung mga trabaho rin kasi nagiging all-rounder ka, kasi konti ang hinihire kahit sa peak time na maraming customer ang dumadagsa,” said Samonte, a service worker at the University Hotel.

[“We experience the exploitation due to the flexible working time, prompting us to be all-rounders in work. They only hire few employees which makes it hard especially during peak time wherein many customers come,”]

Samonte added that the hotel management won’t give them their due overtime fee. Rather, they force the workers to wait for its accumulation or else they will not be paid for it unless they fulfill the standard 8 hours worth of work.

Jankris Moreno, principal of PJMS, Defend Jobs Philippines, Kilusang Mayo Uno, Kabataan Partylist National Capital Region, League of Filipino Students – National Capital Region and Sining Bugkos were also present in the discussion.
