Members of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) Metro Manila Region marched to Mendiola on March 31 to salute the Party’s successful second congress.

In a video released on the 48th anniversary of the New People’s Army, the armed wing of the CPP, the Party’s second congress was said to have the following main agenda: the amendment of the Party’s current constitution, an updated version of its general program, and the election of a new set of leaders.

The Party’s newly elected central committee leaders were said to be mostly young and middle-aged cadres.

The second congress of the CPP presented a clear picture of its analysis of the concrete conditions of Philippine society, as well as its line and program for waging the people’s democratic revolution–one they said aimed at the overthrow of the state that perpetuates imperialism, bureaucrat capitalism and feudalism in the first stage of the national democratic revolution and the second stage of socialist revolution, to replace it with a socialist society.

“Ang ikalawang kongreso ay kongkretong pagpapakita ng lakas ng masang lumalaban, ng Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas, at ng Bagong Hukbong Bayan, at magpapatuloy lamang ang paglakas nito hanggang sa tuluyan nang makubkob ang kalunsuran mula sa kanayunan at mapagtagumpayan ang matagalang digmang bayan [The second congress is a concrete demonstration of the strength of the masses’ resistance, of the Communist Party of the Philippines, and the New People’s Army, and they would continue to grow in strength until the city would be encircled from the countryside and the people’s protracted war be won],” said the CPP Metro Manila region in a statement.
