Mothers protest the implementation of “No Home Birthing Policy” in Barangay Damayan, Quezon City. Ordinance 2171 was assailed by progressive women’s group Gabriela for being discriminatory as it prohibits poor mothers from availing services of midwives.According to a resolution filed by Gabriela Women’s Party in Congress last year, some mothers would still prefer not to deliver their babies in hospitals or other birthing centres because of the high cost of delivery even in public hospitals. Gabriela asserts the right of mothers to choose on how the babies would be delivered. The group further stressed that government should provide accessible quality reproductive health services.
