Groups led by Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) and P1NAS trooped to the Chinese Consulate yesterday to demand China to exit (CHexit) Philippine waters covered by its 200 nautical miles Exclusive Economic Zone and continental shelf in anticipation of the release of the Permanent Court of Arbitration’s ruling on the case filed by the Philippine Government against China.

The Tribunal issued its unanimous award on the arbitration in the afternoon in favor of the Philippines. It concluded that “there was no legal basis for China to claim historic rights to resources within the sea areas falling within the ‘nine-dash line’.” The Tribunal’s unanimous award is constituted under the Article VII of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

However, People’s Republic of China has repeatedly declared that they will not recognize any decision from the Tribunal.
