Students and student leaders of the De La Salle University (DLSU) Manila campus, together with other student and youth organizations, held a candle lighting activity on March 16, 2015 and called for justice, education for all, and truth and accountability.
Youth groups and De La Salle University (DLSU) students held a candle-lighting activity on March 16 to demand justice for the death of Kristel Tejada, a student of University of the Philippines (UP) Manila who committed suicide due to failure to pay school dues. Rosanna Sanfuego, a freshman student from Cagayan State University (CSU), also claimed her life due to similar circumstances last February.
“Education is a fundamental right of every Filipino citizen and it is imperative for our government to make it accessible. The government must ensure the very right of the Filipino youth to quality education,” said Robbie Arcadio of Alyansang Tapat sa Lasalista (TAPAT).
TAPAT also called for truth and accountability behind the Mamasapano operation.”All Out War in Mindanao of the government is NOT the decisive point of attaining peace in the country. But by rooting the real cause of equality and injustices in the country, ” said Vani Altomonte, spokesperson of TAPAT.
“The Filipino youth and students have had enough of lies and cover-ups. And in this case, the Filipino people have nothing to do but to declare an all out fight against the system of deception and fabrication. The Aquino government must held accountable for all these injustices and spin-off informations,” said JC Sibayan,Vice President for Luzon, National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP).
