Members of the L. Gabriel – Mactan Homeowners in Baclaran held a prayer vigil and stood guard over their homes this morning as the Parañaque City’s local government unit (LGU) deadline for possible demolition of their homes expire today. The residents protested that the demolition of their homes will be implemented in the guise of the Duterte government’s order for LGUs to conduct sidewalk clearing operations. The residents said they were prepared to form a barricade to defend their homes.

After President Duterte’s fourth State of the Nation Address in July 22, the Department of Interior and Local Government issued Memorandum Circular No. 2019-121, giving local government units a 60-day deadline to clear sidewalks.

Residents evacuated their children to the Our Mother of Perpetual Help National Shrine of the Redemptorist missionaries as clearing operation crew, cops and Parañaque City hall personnel were spotted in the vicinity of the community due for clearing.

Around 108 families will be affected by the pending demolition.
