64 new COVID-19 cases among health workers in one day, total of 6,853 as of August 28

The Department of Health (DOH) Beat COVID-19 Philippine Situationer with data as of August 28 recorded 64 new COVID-19 cases in a day among health workers, bringing the total to 6,853. One in every 30 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country is a health worker.

The Health agency reported 695 active cases among health workers, after 41 new active cases were added in a day.

The DOH also tagged 23 new recoveries, bringing the total recoveries to 6,118.

Total deaths among health workers are at 40, the last recorded was on August 26.

A total of 249,484 individuals have tested positive, while the DOH have confirmed 209,544 COVID-19 cases. There is a difference of 39,940 cases that tested positive that the DOH have yet to validate to know whether this number would be included in the confirmed cases. DOH also reported 3,034 testing backlogs.

The Philippines ranks first in the number of total cases in the Southeast Asian region, having 44,660 more cases than Indonesia (162,884) that ranked second. Singapore reported 56,572 cases, Malaysia 9,291 and Thailand 3,410, rounding the five countries in the region with the most cases.
