The Department of Health (DOH) Beat COVID-19 Philippine Situationer with data as of August 31 recorded 58 new COVID-19 cases in a day among health workers, bringing the total to 7,064. One in every 31 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country is a health worker.
The Health agency reported 554 active cases among health workers, with 36 more cases added in a day.
The DOH also tagged 22 new recoveries, bringing the total recoveries to 6,470.
Total deaths among health workers are at 40, the last recorded was on August 26.
A total of 262,442 individuals have tested positive, while the DOH have confirmed 220,819 COVID-19 cases. There is a difference of 41,623 cases that tested positive that the DOH have yet to validate to know whether this number would be included in the confirmed cases. The DOH also reported 11,851 testing backlogs.
The Philippines ranks first in the number of total cases in the Southeast Asian region, having 46,023 more cases than Indonesia (174,796) that ranked second. Singapore reported 56,812 cases, Malaysia 9,340 and Thailand 3,417, rounding the five countries in the region with the most cases.
