“Marcos singilin, Duterte panagutin” was the central call of various progressive organizations that gathered at Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila to protest government corruption, rampant human rights abuses, and abuse of power among others.
The protesters further demanded the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte over allegations of misuse of public funds and condemned President Marcos Jr.’s controversial 2025 national budget that prioritizes counterinsurgency efforts and discretionary spending at the expense of adequate public services.
They also urged for accountability from former President Rodrigo Duterte, citing his administration’s human rights violations, the bloody war on drugs, and misuse of government funds. According to groups, this laid the foundation that fostered a persisting culture of impunity and socio-economic crisis under the Marcos Jr. administration.
