For the 100th year anniversary of the October Revolution in Russia, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan and International League of People’s Struggle held a People’s Forum on Imperialist Plunder and War at the Palma Hall Lobby of the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City this morning.

The October Revolution birthed the Soviet Union, the first socialist state in the world, led by the great proletariat Vladimir Lenin and the working class of Russia. It first saw the overthrow of the czar and then the taking of power by the oppressed classes in the country—the workers and the peasants.

The Soviet Union was one of the dominant political entities in the 20th century. It existed from 1922 to 1991, until it reverted to the capitalist state it is today.

Held a day before the start of the 31st Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, groups underscored in the commemoration of the Bolsheviks’ victory to form the Soviet Union, a state for the people, that a new world is possible.

The participants hit the ASEAN Summit for “being a cluster of neocolonial client states subservient to the interests of capitalist and imperialist powers.”

The forum was held in preparation for the upcoming people’s protest against the ASEAN (ASEAN) Summit, the subsequent East Asia Summit and the first state visit of United States of America (US) President Donald Trump to the country from November 12-14.
