The National Anti-Poverty Commission headed by Lead Convenor and Sec. Liza Maza launched its program Kilos Sambayanan in Manggahan Floodway today at the Anakpawis Basketball Court in Barangay San Andres, Cainta, Rizal.

Maza explained the ’10 basic needs’ of the people that the agency pushes for in order to address poverty alleviation. The 10 basic needs include food, water, shelter, jobs or livelihood, education, health, clean environment, social protection, peace and participation.

Residents from Manggahan Floodway and leaders of various people’s organizations such as Balikwas Kadamay expressed their demand for the public land their homes have occupied for decades to be awarded to them. They also expressed their situation of living in constant fear and threat of demolition and also various cases of harassment from the time the demolition in East Bank Manggahan Floodway, Barangay Sta. Lucia Pasig was set in motion in August.

Maza and representatives from Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor, Department of Social Work and Development and representatives of the Urban Poor Affairs Office of the local governments of Cainta and Taytay expressed their support for the residents demand for the awarding of the public land to the residents.

The east and west banks of Manggahan Floodway spanned Pasig City and Cainta and Taytay in Rizal and home to almost 100,000 residents.
