Progressive groups commemorated International Women’s Day in a protest rally in Manila.

Every March 8, the world recognize the contributions of women in building their communities and countries. From rice fields, factories and modern-day call centers, working women toil for the economic their survival and of their family and they continue to bear the primary burden of caring for children and running a household.

This year’s Women’s Day protest march in Manila called for wage increases, ending contractualization, ending rice liberalization and fending off militarization of communities, especially in the rural areas. Groups also called for an end to the regime of fascism, sexism, misogyny and puppetry under Rodrigo Duterte’s presidency.
