The Philippines has one of the highest number of cases of COVID-19 in South-East Asia. The country continues to struggle in managing the disease, lack of personal protective equipment (PPEs), with healthcare workers paying the price.

Dr. Raldy Goco, Chair of the Department of Nuclear Medicine in St. Luke’s Hospital, died on April 4, 2020.

Dr. Goco was also the former Editor-in-Chief of the Philippine Journal of Nuclear Medicine.

“An excellent doctor, a wise adviser, a funny “commentator”, a valuable colleague, a dear friend… he will be missed,” they continued.

Rizal Medical Center also paid homage to the former Chairperson of their Department of Nuclear Medicine.

“He will always be remembered as a man of integrity with a touch of dry humor. He is the first to arrive in his department at 6:00 am and very focused while working, most especially when seeing patients. His sincere personality fostered good camaraderie among the hospital staff,” the hospital posted on their Facebook page.

The Philippine Society of Nuclear Medicine posted a tribute to their past president on their website.

It read, “You fought the good fight and you will be forever missed by your PSNM colleagues.”

The Philippine Heart Center also remembered one of the alumni of their Nuclear Medicine Training Program.  He was described as “soft-spoken, quiet yet easy to get along with.”

As of April 22, there are 6, 599 cases of COVID-19 in the country, with 654 recoveries and 437. Health workers have continually pushed for more PPEs, hazard pay and mass testing as they face overwhelming conditions inside hospitals.
