More than 20 families were given vegetables in the mobile community pantry spearheaded by Pasig-based youth group Team Kabataan in partnership with Tulong Kabataan Metro Manila and Sining Bugkos in Brgy. Maybunga, Pasig City on August 14.
“Lagi naming iisipin paano makatulong at paano tayo magtutulungan, pero sana mauna naman ‘yung gobyerno na may magawa para hindi mangyari na may sumasala sa pagkain dahil na naman sa panibagong lockdown,” said Team Kabataan president Jimuel Escoton.
[We will always think of how we can help and how people can help one another, but we hope that the government could take the lead in ensuring that no one was forced to miss a meal because of another lockdown.]
The said mobile pantry took inspiration from the Maginhawa community pantry. They delivered essential goods from house to house.
According to the youth group, the community they served was among those whose residents have suffered from loss of income or livelihood due to the pandemic and lockdown.
They have also yet to receive food or cash aid in this iteration of the lockdown.
“Hindi sapat ang ayuda, sa loob ng 16 buwan na may iba’t ibang porma ng lockdown ay magtatlong beses pa lang magbibigay ng pinansyal na ayuda ang pamahalaan. Kulang na kulang ang mga medikal na solusyon para sugpuin ang pakalat ng COVID-19 at sa halip ay patuloy ang pagpokus at pagpondo sa militaristang lockdown,” said Escoton.

Metro Manila was placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) amid the spike of Delta variant of COVID-19 in the country. This was the ninth day of the lockdown, slated to end on August 20.
