Makabayan National Capital Region (NCR) successfully conducted a grand house-to-house campaign in various cities across NCR, joined by local candidates, Party-list representatives, and patriotic senators last November 23.

“It is time for us to take a step forward and participate in the 2025 elections to have progressive candidates representing the people in cities and districts,” said Makabayan NCR in a statement.

Leticia Castillo, who is running for councilorship in District 2, Valenzuela said Makabayan truly engages the masses.

“For traditional politicians, house-to-house campaigns are usually limited to waving, smiling, and shaking hands with residents. In contrast, we in Makabayan learn about their situations, needs, and concerns, particularly on issues like security of housing, wages, jobs, and the economy,” shared Castillo.

Castilo was joined by Gabriela Women’s Partylst representative Arlene Brosas who is also running for senatorial post under Makabayan Coalition during the house-to-house campaign.

“The people feel that Makabayan is serious and ready to sacrifice, listen, and act for everyone, which makes them feel comfortable sharing their struggles. They sense that this is the kind of politician they need—one who is willing to fight for them,” Castillo added.

Various local organizations also joined the house-to-house campaign, helping with mobilization and clarifying issues particularly the People’s Agenda as their core program.

“We engage with the masses in a style of work that focuses on mass line through the dissemination of discussion guides, petitions, dialogues in councils, Congress, and on the streets. We clarify that the masses must lead in carrying the issues to mass movement, and we are part of that work,” said Ricardo “Rex” Margallo who is running for councilorship in District 1, Caloocan.

Margallo said whether there is an election or not, building peoples’ organizations helps clarify to the community that they are part of carrying issues in the local to national even to international scene.

Makabayan NCR highlighted the community plays a huge role for the betterment of society, emphasizing the line “from the masses, for the mases and to the masses”.

Despite limited resources, Makabayan NCR continues to expand the reach of their campaign to connect with more people through massive grassroots and education. This includes volunteer engagement, chapter building, assemblies and others.
