Makabayan NCR launched its general assembly on Monday, September 30, at Sta. Mesa, Manila. 

The assembly was attended by various progressive partylist organizations coming from different cities within the National Capital Region. 

The regional coalition also held its elections’ to determine the next executive committee who will lead the MAKABAYAN NCR’s program especially with the upcoming 2025 midterm elections. The coalition previously declared its decision to field candidates in the local elections.

The 2025 midterm elections are not just another electoral exercise—they are a fight for the future of the Filipino people. Workers, who represent the largest and most critical sector, must be at the forefront of this movement, alongside the youth, who will inherit and shape the future of this country. Together, we will demand better governance, policies that prioritize human dignity, and a society where the rights and welfare of the majority are protected,” said MAKABAYAN NCR in a statement.

The regional coalition also formally introduced its initial slate for the upcoming local elections: 

1. Ricardo “Rex” Margallo, running for councilorship in District 1 Caloocan, the current Bayan Muna Caloocan coordinator.

2. Rene Mira, running for councilorship in District 2 Marikina, a vendor and president of Samahan ng Vendors sa Fortune. 

3. Leticia Castillo, running for councilorship in District 2 Valenzuela, a former day care teacher and AKAP-BATA partylist coordinator.

4. Myrna “Ate Myrns” Dela Concepcion, running for councilorship at District 1 Muntinlupa, the current vice chairperson of Gabriela Muntinlupa. 

5. Eleazar Anaya, running for councilorship in District 1 Muntinlupa, a member of Kabataan Partylist Muntinlupa.

6. Girlie “Jing” Delos Santos, running for councilorship in District 1 Taguig, president of Nagkakaisang Residente ng Maysapang.
