Students and other members of the UP community in Diliman together with advocates for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights unfurled a giant LGBT Pride flag and marched in the university marking this year’s Pride March.

Consequently, the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva adopted a resolution (September 27 Philippine time) upholding the rights of the LGBT community in a vote of 25-14 with 7 abstentions. The resolution was adopted by the Council despite opposition from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation due to “religious and cultural values.”
