“Unionism is not Terrorism!” raged in utmost condemnation by the Confederation for Unity, Recognition and Advancement of Government Employees (COURAGE) along with other progressive groups in front of Commission on Human Rights in Quezon City on March 4.

The labor alliance lambasted the yet another counter-insurgency crackdown against labor unionist and organizer in San Pablo, Laguna.

Water System Employees Response (WATER) Secretary General and San Pablo City Water District Employees Association (SPCWDEA) President Ramir Corcolon along with union leader for Lakas ng Manggagawang Nagkakaisa sa Honda and Alyansa ng Mnagagawa sa Engklabo Arnedo Lagunias were arrested in the early morning in their respective homes.

Unsurprisingly, these harrowing stories of arrest and injustice become one all too familiar to the public.

COURAGE reported that the witnesses affirmed Corcolon’s home was forcibly entered by elements who identified themselves from Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) via a search warrant dated February 23 issued by Executive Judge Divinagracia G. Bustos-Ongkeko of Santa Cruz, Laguna Regional Trial Court of Branch 91. According to reports, Corcolon and Lagunias are now in Camp Vicente Lim at Calubang, Laguna.

“Maraming ipinangako si Pang. Duterte para sa mga manggagawa ngunit wala ni isang natupad dito… kaya ang ginagawa niya na lang ay supilin, patahimikin, takutin ang lider-kawani at lider ng unyon,” said Roxanne Fernandez, COURAGE National Council member.

Corcolon is active in leading the campaign to end privatization of the water district in the country.

Lagunias, on the other hand, have been relentlessly red-tagged and confronted AFP-PNP visitations with remarks that he is a top ranking official of the communist armed group. In fact, an AFP official named SSgt. Romy Aragon had visited Lagunias home.

“Hindi tayo mapapatahimik ng administrasyon ni Duterte, hindi niya magagawa na pahintuin ang mga unyonista na ipanawagan ang katiyakan sa trabaho at iba pang karapatan ng mga manggagawa,” ended by Fernandez

Unsurprisingly, the scheme of their arrest is indifferent from the widening crackdown of state forces against critical individuals and organizations. According to reports, Corcolon and Lagunias are now in Camp Vicente Lim at Calubang, Laguna.
