Progressive groups trooped to Mendiola for the 34th anniversary of EDSA People Power, the uprising that toppled the 14-year old Marcos dictatorship. Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. would end martial Law in paper on January 17, 1981 with Proclamation No. 2045, but Marcos would reserve a few authoritarian powers for himself and keep the military out of their barracks and onto civilians until he was ousted by the people.

Samahan ng Ex-Detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto (SELDA), an organization of victims and survivors of the bloody Marcos dictatorial regime, lamented how three decades after the eventful EDSA uprising, the fight for justice and accountability still goes on as Ferdinand Marcos’ family desperately attempts to gain political resurgence through President Rodrigo Duterte, a self-professed diehard Marcos fanatic.
