Anti-pork groups launched the signature drive against ‘Pork Barrel’ in key cities of the metro as part of the People’s Initiative to Abolish Pork Barrel, which was convened in Cebu City last September 23. #ScrapThePork Alliance has set up sign-up booths and held house-to-house activities in various churches and communities in cities all over Metro Manila with their aim to gather one million signatures as contribution to the national campaign to criminalize the use of ‘Pork Barrel.’

The target 1 million signatures that will come from the 32 congressional districts in 16 cities and 1 municipality of the metropolis is the contribution of Metro Manila-based anti pork groups to the 6-10 million signatures aimed to be reached in the whole country.

Yesterday, the group staged the central program of the launch at one of the busiest and most populated districts in the City of Manila. People flocked the sign up booth in front of the Sto Nino Church at Plaza Hernandez in Tondo, Manila.

Similar activities were held simultaneously in Quezon City, Caloocan, Navotas, Malabon, Valenzuela, San Juan, Marikina, Pasig, Paranaque, Muntinlupa and Taguig.

3% of the total voting population per congressional district and 10% of the total voting population nationwide is needed to be able to hold a referendum seeking the abolition of ‘Pork Barrel’ or lump sum and unprogrammed funds.
